You will find that the automatic units are much more expensive than the tripod mounted manual kind. That’s because of the technology required to deploy the system at the push of a button.
If you are thinking about getting a manual tripod unit, be aware that you will need to assemble and disassemble it after each use. And the unit itself requires a fair amount of storage space during travel.
Tripods units are better suited for use after a day of traveling. You’ll find it’s probably not worth the effort to set up a tripod mounted unit if you are just making a short stop.
One area where a tripod unit really shines is with its flexibility. For RV satellite internet to work you need a clear, unobstructed view of the southern sky. It’s a whole lot easier to move a tripod to get this unobstructed view than it is to try to maneuver your RV to a new position.
